These terms apply when you buy a ticket to, or enter, the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel at 101 Waterfront Way, Docklands VIC 3008. The Melbourne Star is operated by MB Star Properties Pty Ltd (ABN 84 165 079 390, ACN 165 079 390). In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean MB Star Properties Pty Ltd, and “you” means the person buying the ticket or entering the site.
Liquor is supplied at the Melbourne Star by Xtra Ordinary Events Pty Ltd (ACN 145 100 063) under on-premises liquor licence number 32390956.
By buying a ticket or entering the site, you agree to these terms. Please read them before you book.
1. Your ticket
- You must hold a valid ticket to board a cabin. Tickets can be shown on a phone or printed.
- Tickets are for the date and/or session time shown on them. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your session.
- If you arrive late, we will do our best to board you on the next available rotation with space, up to one hour after your booked session time. This is a courtesy and depends on availability. If we cannot fit you in, your ticket is treated as unused.
- Concession tickets require a valid concession card, presented when you collect or scan your ticket. Without it, you will be asked to pay the difference to a standard ticket.
- Tickets bought at a discounted, promotional or package rate carry the same terms as standard tickets unless the offer says otherwise.
- Tickets are not for resale. We may refuse entry on a ticket we reasonably believe has been resold, duplicated or obtained improperly.
- All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST.

3. Changes and refunds
Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
3.1 Standard tickets
- Tickets are non-refundable.
- You can change the date or time of your booking as many times as you like, up until your session start time. Changes are free and subject to availability.
- Your new session must be within three months of your original booking date.
- Changes cannot be made once your session start time has passed.
- If you do not attend your session and have not changed it, your tickets are forfeited.
- You can change your booking yourself using the link in your confirmation email, or by contacting us.
3.2 Catering packages
- Packages that include catering or other perishable products, including Romance and Picnic, can be changed up to 72 hours before your session start time.
- Changes within 72 hours cannot be accommodated, because we order your catering in advance.
- Catering packages are non-refundable.
3.3 Group, school and Private Cabin bookings
These bookings are covered by our Groups, Schools and Private Cabin Terms, not by this section.
3.4 Tickets bought somewhere else
If you booked through a third party such as Klook, Viator, TripAdvisor, Headout, KKday, Airbnb Experiences, a travel agent or a hotel concierge, your booking is with them. Changes, cancellations and refunds must be arranged with that provider, under their terms, not ours. We cannot change or refund a ticket we did not sell.
3.5 If we close
We may close the wheel at any time for maintenance, weather or other circumstances outside our control. If we close and cannot operate your booked session, we will offer you a new session at a time that suits you, or a refund. We are not responsible for other costs you may have incurred, such as travel, parking or accommodation, except where the Australian Consumer Law requires otherwise.
Annual pass holders do not need to reschedule. Simply book another session.
4. Entry to the site
- You must follow the instructions, rules and directions of our team at all times. Our team may refuse entry, refuse boarding or ask you to leave, and in those circumstances no refund is payable.
- The site, the wheel and every cabin are monitored by CCTV. By entering the site, you consent to being recorded. See our Privacy Policy for how recordings are handled.
- Offensive, irresponsible, anti-social, indecent or unsafe behaviour, theft and vandalism are not tolerated.
- Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn at all times.
- Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the site, on the wheel or in cabins.
- Guests who appear to be affected by alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to board, and may be asked to leave.
- No running is permitted on the site or in cabins.
- Animals are not permitted, other than guide dogs and registered assistance dogs.
5. Children and supervision
- Guests aged under 16 must ride in the same cabin as an accompanying adult.
- Guests aged under 11 must be accompanied by their own responsible adult, who must ride in the same cabin.
- After 9pm, all guests under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult while on the site. This is a condition of our liquor licence and applies regardless of the rules above.
- Guests under 18 who are on site without a responsible adult may only be here to take a rotation, and only from one hour before their session until one hour after it ends. This is also a licence condition.
- Accompanying adults are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of children in their care.
6. Bags, prams and restricted items
6.1 What comes aboard
Handbags and backpacks may be taken into cabins, subject to a bag check.
6.2 Bag checks
Every bag taken on a rotation is checked at the Star Entry point. This applies to handbags, backpacks, camera bags and anything else you plan to take into a cabin.
- Bag checks are a condition of entry. If you would prefer not to have your bag checked, you are welcome to leave it at the bag drop in the gift shop and board without it.
- You open your bag and our team will look inside. Our team may hold your bag or feel it from the outside, but will not go through your personal belongings.
- Checks are carried out consistently, for every guest carrying a bag.
- If you are carrying an item that cannot come into a cabin, you can take it to the bag drop before boarding. We will hold it until you come back down.
- If you decline a bag check and will not use the bag drop, we cannot board you, and no refund is payable.
- If we find anything that appears to be unlawful, we will contact Victoria Police.
- If you are carrying a medical device, medication, a religious or cultural item, or anything else you would rather not open in front of other guests, let our team know and we will do the check as discreetly as we can.
- Please allow a few extra minutes at the entry point, particularly at busy times.
6.3 What goes to the bag drop
The following must be left in the bag drop area at the gift shop before you board:
- Large bags and suitcases
- Prams and strollers
- Power banks and portable chargers
- Smart bags, meaning any bag with a built-in battery, charger, motor or tracking device
Personal belongings left in the bag drop, or anywhere else on site, are left at the owner’s risk.
6.4 Restricted items
The following must not be brought into a cabin under any circumstances:
- Power banks and portable chargers
- Sharp tools, including knives and scissors
- Work tools, including hammers and screwdrivers
- Sporting goods, including poles, bats and clubs
- Weapons of any kind
- Firearms
- Any other object our team reasonably considers dangerous
Restrictions also apply to large video and photography equipment, and to mobility scooters. Talk to our team on arrival and we will help you work out what can come aboard.
7. Food, drink and alcohol
- You may not bring your own food into cabins.
- Food and drink bought on site may be taken into any cabin.
- Alcohol bought from our bar may be taken into any cabin. Alcohol is not to be brought onto the site from outside.
- We serve alcohol responsibly and in line with our licence. We may refuse service, and we may refuse boarding to a guest carrying alcohol, at our discretion.
- Guests drinking alcohol in a Star Class cabin must present photo identification when they collect or scan their ticket, and carry it with them in the cabin. Guests drinking in any other cabin may be asked for photo identification by our team.
- Happy Half Hour is strictly 18+. Photo identification is required for every guest when collecting or scanning tickets, and must be carried in the cabin.
- Under our liquor licence, alcohol cannot be consumed in a cabin with an unaccompanied minor. Our team will load cabins with this in mind.
- It is an offence to supply alcohol to a person under 18, and to buy alcohol on behalf of a person under 18.
8. Boarding and cabins
- During normal boarding, cabins move slowly and do not stop. Our team can slow or pause the wheel to help you board at your own pace.
- Please move through the queue without stopping and board the next available cabin. Waiting for a preferred cabin is not permitted.
- Cabins are loaded at our team’s discretion. We may limit numbers in a cabin, or ask a group to split across cabins, to stay within safe loading limits.
- Standard cabins carry up to 20 guests. Star Class cabins carry up to 16 guests. Both are also subject to a maximum load, and our team will manage this on the day.
- Photography is not permitted while boarding or leaving a cabin.
- Take care boarding and leaving the cabin, and mind the step.
- As a normal part of the wheel’s operation, it stops from time to time. There is no cause for alarm.
9. Accessibility
- Boarding is level and step-free, and cabins are wheelchair accessible.
- Wheelchairs and mobility aids come aboard with you.
- Our team can slow or pause the wheel so you can board at your own pace.
- One carer per guest rides free. Please let our team know when you book or when you arrive.
- Assistance dogs are welcome, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).
- Full information is on our Accessibility page. If you would like to talk your visit through first, contact us and our team will help you plan it.
10. Comfort and health
A rotation takes about 30 minutes and cabins do not stop once boarding is complete. There are no toilets in the cabins. If you have a medical condition, or you are uncomfortable with heights or enclosed spaces, please consider this before boarding, and speak to your doctor if you are unsure.
11. Photography and filming
- You are welcome to take photographs and video for your own personal use, other than while boarding or leaving a cabin.
- Commercial photography, filming, drone operation and media work require our written permission in advance.
- We film and photograph on site for security and, at times, for promotional purposes. By entering, you agree that we may use images and footage in which you appear for those purposes. If you would prefer not to appear, tell a member of our team and we will do our best to accommodate you.
- CCTV recordings are used for safety and security only. They are never used for promotional purposes or published.
12. Risk
Like any amusement ride, riding the Melbourne Star involves some level of risk. You accept that risk, and you agree to exercise good judgement and to behave sensibly and responsibly while you are with us.
Please follow our team’s instructions, the conditions of entry displayed on site, and the safety information in these terms. If you are unsure whether the experience is right for you, speak to our team before you board.
13. Our responsibility to you
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If we fail to meet a consumer guarantee, you may be entitled to a remedy, including a refund. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights.
Apart from those rights, and to the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, or that was caused by you not following these terms, our team’s instructions or the safety information displayed on site.
Where our liability can be limited but not excluded, our liability is limited to resupplying the experience, or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
14. If something goes wrong
If you are unhappy with any part of your visit, please tell a member of our team while you are here so we can put it right. If that is not possible, contact us at info@melbournestar.com.au and we will respond within 5 business days.
15. General
- We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the version published when you booked.
- These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have jurisdiction.
- If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
