A live geography lesson at 120 metres

Take learning out of the classroom and into the sky. From 120 metres above Melbourne, students can see the city they’ve studied on maps come to life beneath them – from Port Phillip Bay and the city grid to our waterways, transport networks, port and surrounding landscape. It’s an unforgettable way to help students understand how Melbourne fits together – and see their city from an entirely new perspective.

The Melbourne Star is fully accessible, making it easy to create an excursion the whole class can experience together.

What students see

From the Melbourne Star, students can explore Melbourne’s geography in real time, including Port Phillip Bay and the coastline, the Yarra River (Birrarung), the Maribyrnong River and Melbourne’s western waterways, the CBD grid, the Port of Melbourne, major road and transport networks, and the You Yangs and surrounding ranges on the horizon.

Suitable for Primary & Secondary Schools

The Melbourne Star experience is suitable for both primary and secondary school groups, with opportunities to explore Melbourne’s geography, landmarks, environment and urban development at different levels of learning.

Curriculum-Linked Program – Launching Term 1, 2027

From Term 1, 2027, we’ll take the school experience even further with the launch of our curriculum-linked education program. Geography will lead the program, with resources aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and STEM learning experiences to follow. Dedicated teacher packs and classroom resources will help extend the experience before, during and after your visit.

How much is a school excursion?

Students are $18 each, with one free teacher with every 10 students. One carer per student rides free.

Is it suitable for a school group?

Yes. Cabins are enclosed, climate controlled and fully accessible, and the whole visit runs to a thirty-minute rotation, so it’s easy to timetable.

What’s the minimum for a group booking?

Groups start at 20 people. Larger groups and multiple cabins are welcome, just tell us the numbers.

Is the excursion curriculum-linked?

Yes. Geography is our lead programme, built to the Victorian Curriculum, with teacher resources launching for Term 1 2027 and STEM to follow.
